Instructor begins across-the-country glider flight

MAKURAZAKI, Japan - A glider operated by Toru Ikeda, an instructor in Hokkaido, begins a flight across the Japanese archipelago from Makurazaki airport in the southern prefecture of Kagoshima on March 31, heading for Takigawa, Hokkaido. The 2,140-kilometer flight is the brainchild of a sky sports promotion group in Takigawa, Hokkaido, to promote gliding. (Kyodo)

        TOKYO, Japan - A group of war-displaced Japanese from China wave at Narita airport in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, on March 14 before leaving for Beijing. The group of 12 were in Japan for two weeks to search for relatives. They are among 20 people in China recognized as Japanese who became displaced during the confusion at the end of the Pacific War.
