Cormorant fishing begins on Gifu's Nagara River
GIFU, Japan - A fisherman manages as many as a dozen trained cormorants on leashes from a wooden boat drifting downstream on Gifu Prefecture's Nagara River May 11, the opening day of this year's cormorant fishing season. Cormorant fishing, which has a history of 1,300 years, will be performed every day until Oct. 15. (Kyodo)
