Cormorant fishing begins on Nagara River in Gifu Pref.

GIFU, Japan - Fishermen watch their trained cormorants from wooden boats drifting on Gifu Prefecture's Nagara River on May 11, the opening day of this year's cormorant fishing season. Cormorant fishing, which has a history of 1,300 years, will be performed every day until Oct. 15. (Kyodo)
