Lee apologizes for public outcry over U.S. beef imports
SEOUL, South Korea - South Korean President Lee Myung Bak bows his head and apologizes in a nationally televised speech on May 22 for triggering public outcry by a decision to lift a ban on U.S. beef imports. Lee's statement was issued after fears of mad cow disease among South Koreans provoked massive protest rallies calling on the government to scrap an agreement to restart imports. (Kyodo)
