Bus submerged in flood in Kyoto

KYOTO, Japan - A tunnel running below the JR Tokaido railway line in Muko, Kyoto Prefecture, was flooded July 28, with a kindergarten bus (in the background) and a passenger car (in front) submerged in the water, as heavy rain and thunderstorms hit an extensive area of western Japan. All eight people on the bus were rescued. (Kyodo)

According to the reports, the accident took place near the Moro area of the district after a collision between a car and a passenger bus, resulting in casualties. Following the accident, local authorities and rescue workers reached the site and shifted the victims to the local hospitals, said the rescue service. The deceased included four men and three women, it added. Reportedly, the ill-fated bus was going from the country's eastern Lahore city towards the southern port city of Karachi.
