Aoki resigns as LDP upper house chief
TOKYO, Japan - Mikio Aoki, the head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's House of Councillors caucus, emerges from a meeting of LDP executives at the party headquarters in Tokyo on Aug. 1. Aoki later resigned from the post to take responsibility for the party's crushing defeat in the upper house election on July 29. (Kyodo)
