Ex-bankers sentenced to prison terms over bad loans
SAPPORO, Japan - The Sapporo High Court sentenced Hiroshi Yamauchi (L in file photo) and Sadamasa Kawatani (C), two former Hokkaido Takushoku Bank presidents, to two-and-a-half years in prison each on Aug. 31 for irresponsibly extending loans that led to the Sapporo-based bank's collapse in 1997. Yoichi Nakamura (R), the former head of a Sapporo-based resort hotel developer, received 18 months in prison. (Kyodo)
