Dalai Lama meets Taiwan opposition chief as China fumes
KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan - Supporters of integration between China and Taiwan rally in protest at the Dalai Lama's visit to Taiwan. The 74-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate, branded by Beijing as a ''splittist'' intent on tearing Tibet away from Chinese rule, visited the island to lead prayers for the victims of Typhoon Morakot, which lashed the island with heavy rains last month killing more than 600 people and causing billions of U.S. dollars in damage.
