Centenarians in Japan number record 28,395
MIYAZAKI, Japan - Tomoji Tanabe, from Miyakonojo, Miyazaki Prefecture, who turns 111 on Sept. 18, the Respect-for-the Aged Day is Japan's oldest man. Tanabe is looking forward to receiving a courtesy call by Miyakonojo Mayor Makoto Nagamine on that day. Centenarians across Japan number a record 28,395, comprising 4,150 men and 24,245 women.
