Diet passes amendment allowing N. Korea sanctions
TOKYO, Japan - Members of the House of Councillors' Financial Affairs Committee raise their hands on Feb. 9 to show their approval for a bill to revise the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Control Law, allowing the government to unilaterally impose economic sanctions on North Korea. The bill later cleared parliament after being endorsed by an upper house plenary session. (Kyodo)
