In-train spraying of antiviral materials by JR West

West Japan Railway Co. (JR West) has begun anti-viral and anti-bacterial treatment of the entire interior of its trains, with plans to implement the treatment on about 3,600 cars running in the Keihanshin area by the end of September and eventually on all 5,200 cars on conventional lines. The plan is to ensure the safety and security of passengers under with corona. The system uses chemicals that have been confirmed by a third-party organization to be effective against influenza and noroviruses. The effect will last for several years, the company said. The chemicals will be sprayed on windows, seats and other places where passengers may touch them. The new linear test vehicle unveiled by JR Tokai

The current test vehicle, the L0 Series, is the first commercial version and recorded the world's fastest speed of 603 km/h in 2003. The improved test car shown to the public has a new top shape. In the L0, the front lighting and forward vision camera on the top of the car were moved to the top. Another feature of the L0 is that the gas turbine power generator required for the test line has been eliminated, and only the induction current collection system, which is the target for the commercial specification, is used to supply electricity. Demonstration experiment of remote medical treatment using NTT DOCOMO's 5G-compatible mobile medical vehicles

Based on the results of the demonstration, the team aims to put the vehicle to practical use at an early date. A 5G-compatible mobile medical vehicle (photo) was dispatched to the Hidakagawa Town Health and Welfare Center (Hidakagawa Town, Wakayama Prefecture) to temporarily establish a communication environment. Yukihiko Okumura, director of the 5G Innovation Promotion Office, expressed his expectation, saying, "We will be able to rush to the patients' side (even in depopulated areas). NTT DOCOMO and Wakayama Prefectural University of Medical Science have been conducting a verification experiment since fiscal 2017, and this is the third time they have conducted the experiment.
