Demolition works started at Ezbet Abu Qarn real estate in Old Cairo on August 5, 2021. Ezbet Abu Qarn is one of the oldest and largest informal settlements in Egypt, bordering the ruins of El-Fustat in the heart of Old Cairo. Sprawling over an area of 11 hectares, Ezbet Abu Qarn has been an ongoing development project for the Egyptian government to address issues of poverty, unhygienic conditions and a lack of infrastructure.
