KASHMIR-SRINAGAR-VERTICAL SINKHOLE

(220218) -- SRINAGAR, Feb. 18, 2022 (Xinhua) -- A boy crosses a partially dried stream at a village in Anantnag district, about 94 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, Feb. 18, 2022. A vertical sinkhole that has developed in the middle of a river bed has devoured a freshwater stream in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said Thursday. The sinkhole has been draining in all the run of the stream water into it and left the downstream portion dry, killing trout fish in large numbers. It has also caused immeasurable damage to aquatic life. (Xinhua/Javed Dar)
