The Iraqi State Board of Antiquities and Heritage has announced it was restoring monumental sculptures vandalized by militants of the extremist group Islamic State (IS) in the historic city of Hatra in northern Iraq. At a ceremony held on Thursday at the archaeological site of Hatra, the State Board of Antiquities revealed some monumental sculptures that have been restored during the past three months by Iraqi experts in cooperation with Italy's International Association of Mediterranean and Oriental Studies (ISMEO), under the sponsorship of the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas (ALIPH).
