STORYLINE:
The carnival season in Louisiana and parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast region from Jan. 6 is filled with celebrations with food, drinks, parades, and parties.
Nicole Milian, a native New Orleans, and her husband moved to Houston in 2018. They opened the storefront of Crescent City Connection in Webster in 2021. The traditional King cake is their main product.
The traditional king cake should be a yeast dough and braided into an oval shape, she said. It will be decorated with icing and sugar in purple, green and yellow---the Mardi Gras colors.
SOUNDBITE (English): NICOLE MILIAN, Store owner
"In New Orleans, we place one baby (doll) and whoever gets the baby is the king of the day. It's kind of just something fun that kids like."
