The chairman of Egypt's Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, announced on Saturday that the Suez Canal has recently witnessed a significant number of vessels that crossed through the waterway in the first quarter of 2022.
Rabie said that the canal registered 5,303 vessels from January to March, compared to 4,581 vessels over the same period last year.
The canal recorded revenue of 1.691 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2022, up from 1.409 billion U.S. dollars in the same period a year prior.
The Suez Canal is the fastest shipping route between Europe and Asia, in addition to being one of the Egyptian government's main sources of foreign currency.
