Tunisian government decided to ban the exports of some vegetables and fruits in order to stabilize domestic prices, according to a statement from the Tunisian Commerce Ministry issued on Tuesday.
The statement said that due to the rapid rise in the price of some food products in Tunisia recently, the Tunisian government decided to stop exporting some vegetables and fruits to give priority to the domestic market.
The ministry mentioned that the banned vegetables include peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, onions and other varieties.
Affected by the rising prices of international commodities, Tunisia has seen a sharp rise in prices for vegetable oil, flour, rice and so on.
In 2021, Tunisia exported about 45 million U.S. dollars of vegetables and fruits, mainly to Libya.
