SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): MIJIT SATTAR, Farmer
"The way of farming is so different from the past. Previously, one mu (0.07 hectare) of land could yield 500-600 kg of wheat, or 600-700 kg at most. Now, the number can reach 900-1,000 kg."
Mechanized planting has gained more and more popularity in Xinjiang, as modern farm machinery is way more efficient than manual labor.
