STORYLINE:
Atienza, a small town in the heart of Spain, on Monday held a celebration to commemorate a historic event, which has been celebrated every year since over 850 years ago.
Back in 1162, King Alfonso VIII of Castile was just eight years old when his uncle Fernando II of the Kingdom of Leon tried to usurp his throne.
The young king was trapped in Atienza, but just when all seemed lost, Alfonso's allies were able to use the distraction of a religious parade to use their fastest horses to spirit him away to safety in the city of Avila, saving his life and his crown.
That celebration now sees Alfonso's escape recreated by riders from the Brotherhood
