Jean-Luc Melenchon's recently formed left-wing alliance, NUPES (la Nouvelle Union Populaire Ecologique et Sociale) is slightly ahead of French president Emmanuel Macron's coalition, Ensemble, during the first round of the 2022 French legislative elections, French news channel BFMTV reported Sunday night as counting of the votes continues.
According to exit polls conducted jointly by market research and consultancy firm Elabe, Melenchon's NUPES has won 26.2 percent of the votes, while Macron's Ensemble gained 25.9 percent.
Far-right wing party National Rally, led by Marine Le Pen who came in second in the presidential elections has gathered 18.8 percent of the votes, BFMTV added.
