Zhang Jiahe, owner of the smithy, became a blacksmith apprentice at 19 years old, and then decided to make iron forging a life-long career out of his enthusiasm for the craft. He has been staying at this small smithy for nearly 50 years. In 2017, Zhang's iron forging skill was chosen as representative of the intangible cultural heritage in Yingzhou District. Though the items he makes are just articles of everyday use, Zhang is still happy and cherishes his works for those old items he mends can be hardly found on nowadays market.
