The prices of livestock in Egypt have seen a continuous rise in the past few weeks as the Eid al-Adha, or the feast of sacrifice, is approaching.
Last week, the price of calves increased by five Egyptian pounds, reaching 80 pounds per kilogram.
The prices of lambs also increased to 90 pounds per kilo.
The Butchers Division of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce said in a statement that the reasons behind the price hikes are the high prices of fodder and the lack of supply.
As the Eid al-Adha, one of the most important festivals for the Muslims in Egypt, draws near, the demand for meat is expected to grow further, which will likely push the prices of livestock higher.
