Stephanie Williams, the adviser to the United Nations secretary-general (SASG) for Libya, on Saturday condemned the storming of the headquarters of the House of Representatives (parliament) by protestors in the eastern city of Tobruk.
"The people's right to peacefully protest should be respected and protected, but riots and acts of vandalism such as the storming of the House of Representatives' headquarters late yesterday in Tobruk are totally unacceptable," Williams tweeted.
"It is absolutely vital that calm is maintained, responsible Libyan leadership demonstrated, and restraint exercised by all," Williams said.
Footage on Libyan social media showed dozens of protestors on Friday storming and burning the headquarters of the parliament in Tobruk.
