STORYLINE:
Researchers and doctors from Barcelona's Hospital Clinic and the August Pi Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) are studying the unique case of a woman who was diagnosed with HIV in 2006 but whose body prevented the virus from replicating without any medication.
The researchers, who have just presented the case at this year's International AIDS Conference in Canada, hope the mechanism by which the woman's immune system fights the infection can lead to treatments to cure HIV.
