Plastic bags that do not comply with relevant laws and regulations are banned from circulation in Tunisia starting from Sept. 1, according to a statement issued by the Environment Ministry on Wednesday.
The ministry said in the statement that, according to previously issued regulations, the government will prohibit the usage of plastic bags that do not meet the required thickness, standards of heavy metal content and biodegradation conditions in all business premises from September.
The ministry hopes to significantly reduce the pollution caused by plastic bags to local environment by the end of 2024.
