In early August, Israel launched a three-day preemptive military campaign against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza.
The missile attacks had killed nearly 50 Palestinians and wrecked the Palestine Tower, a high-rise residential in central Gaza City housing some PIJ commanders, where Ayman al-Rifi had also taken home.
