Animal sacrifice in Nepal on Maha Nawami

Nepali Hindu revelers stand behind the rope markings to witness the religious sacrifice of he-goat and he-buffalo at Basantapur Durbar Square in capital Kathmandu on the occasion of Maha Nawami, the ninth day of fortnightly festival of Bada Dashain. On Maha Nawami, he-goats, ducks, roosters and he-buffalos are sacrificed at various temples dedicated to the goddesses. Those who do not have the tradition of offering animal or bird sacrifices, offer the sacrifice of fruits and vegetables to the goddess.
