STORYLINE:
Cold Dew (Hanlu), the 17th solar term on the Chinese lunar calendar, falls on Oct. 8 this year.
Just as its name suggests, the arrival of Hanlu comes with growing coldness, shorter daytime, and longer nights.
Traditionally, the imagery of "dew" is symbolic of colder weather. Cold Dew marks the turning point between cool and cold.
Cold Dew falls closely to the Chongyang Festival, thus also shares similar customs. Eating flower cakes, drinking flower wine, and climbing up high, these traditional Chinese customs have always served to add a touch of warmth to crisp autumn days.
