The Arab League is concerned about a possible presidential vacuum in Lebanon, the pan-Arab bloc's assistant secretary-general said in Beirut on Friday.
"We feel that the presidential election is approaching without any signs of reaching a consensus on the new president, which is a matter of concern for the Arab League," Hossam Zaki said following his meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun during his visit to the country.
"Lebanon does not need a presidential vacuum at this time. The Arab League... is also striving to see the presidential election take place in peace. We hope it goes smoothly, which requires a lot of communication between the concerned parties," Zaki added.
