STORYLINE:
The exhibits in Iraq's al-Baghdadi Museum are one of the tourist landmarks in Baghdad, offering a nostalgic journey into the past daily life of the capital city, through scenes featuring life-size wax models.
Located near the Tigris River that bisects Baghdad, the museum's old building was first built in 1869, during the Ottoman era.
In 1970, the al-Baghdadi Museum was opened in the old building after renovation. It includes 385 statues representing more than 77 scenes featuring folk crafts, trades, professions, local customs, and street life.
The museum was damaged during the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and was rehabilitated in August 2008.
