STORYLINE:
A salvage team from the Yangtze River waterway administration managed to lift a shipwreck from the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in Wuhan on Tuesday.
According to the administration, this was the first salvage operation that's part of a project aimed to clear out the passage in the main stream of the Yangtze River.
The submerged ship, named Erhang 9566, sank to the bottom of the river 4 years ago.
Its large-sized wreck with residual fuel oil had negatively affected local ecological environment and navigation safety.
In early September, the salvage team dispatched a 1,000-tonne crane ship and other vessels and equipment to the site.
