Single bamboo drifting is very hard to learn due to the difficulty of balancing on a single bamboo pole on the water. Single bamboo drifting dates back over 2,000 years ago. Believed to have originated along the Chishui River in Guizhou, it was once used to transport logs by locals. The technique has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage in Guizhou.
