STORYLINE:
Malaysia's unemployment rate in the third quarter fell to 3.7 percent from 3.9 percent in the second quarter, official data showed Tuesday.
The number of unemployed persons declined 4.7 percent to 611,800 persons from 642,000 persons in the second quarter, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.
In terms of employment, employed persons rose 0.8 percent to 15.83 million persons in the third quarter, from 15.7 million persons in the second quarter.
The labor force continued to expand in the third quarter, rising 0.6 percent to 16.44 million persons from 16.34 million persons in the preceding quarter.
Subsequently, the labor force participation rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 69.4 percent.
