STORYLINE:
Incumbent Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock will win Georgia's runoff election, multiple U.S. media outlets projected on Tuesday night.
Warnock is expected to defeat his Republican challenger, Herschel Walker, nearly a month after neither candidate won enough votes to secure the Senate seat in this year's midterm elections.
With Warnock's victory, Democrats will control 51 seats in the 100-member chamber over the next two years versus 49 for Republicans.
Republicans flipped the House of Representatives in November's midterms and have vowed more scrutiny of the White House and the Democratic Party's agenda.
The divided Congress will convene for the first time on Jan. 3, 2023.
