STORYLINE:
The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced on Monday that close contact with a case of monkeypox has been confirmed.
The patient is currently being treated in a hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population.
The ministry stated that a new case is a 34-year-old man. The patient was in close contact with one of the previously detected cases, a 39-year-old who resides in a European country on a visit to Egypt, which was announced on 8 December.
The discovery of this case comes within the procedures taken in epidemiological investigations and follow-up of close contacts of positive cases and within the national strategy of the Ministry of Health and Population for preparedness for emerging diseases.
