At the ongoing UN biodiversity conference (COP15) in Montreal, Canada, a Chinese folk art of singing made its debut and attracted the world's attention.
Haicai Qiang, or "seaweed tune," is a primitive folk tune created by people of Yi ethnic group, who live around the picturesque Yilong Lake in southwest China's Yunnan province.
This special art got its name from a kind of aquatic plant growing in Yilong Lake, and is known for its wide vocal range, pleasant melody and indigenous lyrics.
It was included in China's national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006.
