Troops mobilized to put downhill course in good condition

Japanese Self-Defense Forces personnel are mobilized Feb. 10 to put the normal downhill course in good condition at the Hakuba ski jumping venue for the Nagano Winter Olympics. Organizers postponed the women's super G race due to heavy snow Feb. 10 following the Feb. 8 postponement of the men's downhill and Feb. 9 men's combined slalom.

Compagnoni leads in Olympic women's slalom

Lazutina, the silver medalist in the 15-km classical event on Feb. 8, kicked strongly down the final stretch of the Snow Harp course to take the gold medal with a time of 17 minutes, 37.9 seconds.
