English names put on 'shogi' pieces
A greater number of people are likely to enjoy ''shogi'' (Japanese chess) games abroad. A maker in the town of Tazuru, Yamagata Prefecture, northeastern Japan, of shogi boards and pieces puts English names on the pieces. The shogi board game, widely referred to in the West as Japanese chess, involves two players and 40 pieces. The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king.
