Leading Japanese restaurant closes Hong Kong branch

Hong Kong Kanetanaka, a branch of prestigious Japanese restaurant Kanetanaka based in Shimbashi, Tokyo, closes its doors Sept. 30 after 34 years of operation. The restaurant, located inside the Sogo Department Store in Causeway Bay since 1964 and frequented by Japanese businesspeople in Hong Kong, had faced a business slump triggered by the Asian currency crisis.

      U.S. sues Japanese firm under Japan's antitrust law

      TOKYO, Japan - Pictured is the head office building of Kyowa Exeo Corp., a telecommunications engineering company, against which the U.S. Justice Department filed a civil lawsuit in the Tokyo High Court under the Japanese Antimonopoly Law on Sept. 30. According to the department, Kyowa Exeo conspired with others to rig bids on all contracts for operation and maintenance of U.S. military telecommunications systems in Japan from 1981 to 1988.
