Donen closes after 31 years of operation
An employee of Japan's semigovernmental Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corp. (Donen) holds the organization's signboard removed from the wall Sept. 30 as it closes operations the same day following a series of nuclear accidents and cover-ups. The Tokyo-based Donen, established in 1967 to develop nuclear reactors and nuclear fuel recycling systems, will be replaced Oct. 1 by a new entity, the Japan Cycle Development Institute.
