Japan to pay 21.5 mil. dlrs. for U.N. ambassador's residence
The Japanese government will pay 21.5 million dollars for a New York mansion (shown) that will become the official residence of the Japanese ambassador to the United Nations. Officials of Japan's Permanent Mission to the U.N. said the contract on the house will be signed on Jan. 12. The price of the 19th century five-story mansion is the highest ever paid for a residence in New York, sources close to the deal said.
