Fire drill carried out at Todaiji Temple

Firefighters spray water on the Todaiji Temple in Nara as part of a fire drill on Jan. 26. The temple, famous for its bronze statue Great Buddha of Nara, was placed on the World Heritage List in December last year. With 15 fire engines and ladder cars, some 330 people, including firefighters and local schoolchildren, took part in the drill.

      NARA, Japan - Firefighters hold a fire drill Jan. 26 at the temple of Horyuji in the town of Ikaruga, Nara Prefecture. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site that is the oldest wooden structure in the world. Some 100 firefighters and five fire engines took part.
