Doll-float ceremony in Wakayama

Doll-float ceremony in Wakayama

A seasonal doll-float ceremony was held on Kada beach in Wakayama, western Japan, on March 3, the Doll's Festival day. Some 20,000 dolls were sent to the ceremony, where a service was held to drive away evil spirits by floating many dolls out to sea. About 15,000 residents and tourists gathered to watch the three small doll-carrying boats decorated with peach and rape blossoms.
