Aquino attends Sanyo shareholders meeting

Former Philippine President Corazon Aquino addresses a general shareholders meeting of Sanyo Electric Co., held in Moriguchi, Osaka Prefecture, on June 29, in which her appointment as a board member is formalized. The Japanese consumer electronics maker invited Aquino as an outside director to receive advice on operations in Asia. Sanyo has maintained ties with Aquino since its establishment of a semiconductor plant in the Philippines in 1995.

Board Director Mitsuru Honma says in an interview with Kyodo News on June 4 that the company will bolster output of lithium ion batteries for use in personal computers and other electronics gadgets to grab a 35 percent global market share in fiscal 2007 to next March 31, up from 29 percent in fiscal 2006.

            OSAKA, Japan - Kunio Nakamura (L), 60, a senior managing director of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., meets the press at an Osaka hotel April 25 after the company said it will appoint him president to succeed Yoichi Morishita (R). Morishita, 65, will become chairman of the board with the right to represent the consumer electronics maker. The current chairman, Masaharu Matsushita, 87, will become honorary chairman.
