Japan, S. Korea conduct 1st joint naval drill
ABOARD DESTROYER SHIRANE, - Helicopters take off from the destroyer Shirane of Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) in the East China Sea off South Korea's Cheju Island on Aug. 5. as part of joint search-and-rescue exercises with the South Korean navy. The drills, in which ships of the two countries trained in responding to a fire on a civilian vessel, were the first joint military exercises by the two countries.
