Dili becomes sea of flames and black smoke
DILI, East Timor - An Indonesian police officer stands guard in front of a military installation as black smoke rises from nearby districts in Dili, East Timor, on Sept. 7. Despite the Indonesian government imposing martial law on the territory earlier in the day, the situation continued to deteriorate, with the capital becoming a sea of flames and black smoke as pro-Jakarta militias burned shops, houses and other buildings after looting them.
