Lower house approves bills to crack down on AUM

TOKYO, Japan - The House of Representatives on Nov. 18 adopts two bills aimed at cracking down on AUM Shinrikyo, the cult held responsible for the 1995 sarin nerve gas attack on the Tokyo subway system. The bills cleared the lower house with the support of the ruling camp -- the Liberal Democratic Party, the Liberal Party and the New Komeito party -- as well as the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan.
