Mascots announced for 2002 World Cup

TOKYO, Japan - Japanese and South Korean organizers for the 2002 World Cup on Dec. 1 simultaneously announce in Tokyo and Seoul the official mascots for soccer's premier event -- three computer-generated, three-dimensional creatures. Soccer's world governing body FIFA hopes the trio will become the popular face of the tournament in 2002. A short animation reel depicts the three as endeavoring to create a special atmosphere for the World Cup finals.
