Upper house panel OKs bills to crack down on AUM
TOKYO, Japan - The House of Councillors Committee on Judicial Affairs adopts two bills Dec. 2 aimed at cracking down on the activities of the AUM Shinrikyo cult, paving the way for their enactment, possibly by Dec. 3. The bills, one sponsored by the government and the other by lawmakers, allow the monitoring of the cult's activities to allay public anxiety and offer assistance to victims of AUM-related crimes.
