Pacific resort town battles to save beached whale

NAGOYA, Japan - As townsfolk watch, municipal officials and volunteers in the Pacific resort of Osuka, Shizuoka Prefecture, battle April 6 to save a sperm whale which has been stranded on their beach. Workers used an excavator to dig a trench so that the whale can swim back out to sea when the tide changes.
